Why Some Notes Have No Plate Letter
The Reserve Bank of India utilizes inset letters (such as
E, L, R, or S) to track specific printing presses, shifts, or
batches at their security mints. A “Plain” or “No Letter”
inset typically indicates the first batch or primary
plate configuration used when production started for
that specific prefix group. Banknote News +2
This specific configuration falls under the catalog
designation Pick #109e in the Standard Catalog of
World Paper Money, which specifically denotes the “no
plate letter” variety of this 10-rupee design.

About this piece
India 10 Rupees Banknote, 2024, P-109e, UNC and Consecutive, No Plate Letter
This banknote has no plate letter (often referred to as
a Plain Inset note). On Indian banknotes, the plate letter-known as the
inset letter-is printed as a background tint directly
underneath the six-digit serial number sequence (to the
right of the three-character prefix 08N). there
is empty background space between the 08N prefix
and the 953501 numbers, meaning it was printed
without an inset letter.
